Oracle Flex Fields

Ø Flexible Fields used to configure the data based the business requirements which can be shared across the entire application without any programming knowledge.
Ø Pre Defined By Oracle

Two Types

Ø Key Flexfields
Ø Descriptive Flexfields

Key Flexfields
Ø Means Group of Segments
Ø Definition is Intelligent Codes
Ø Module Specific
Ø Used for a Particular Activity
Ø Mandatory for the Application Prospective
Ø In Key Flexfields we can define “N” of Structure, but certain KFF supports only one structure globally
Ø Each KFF supports Multiple Segments depends on the Type of KFF

Grouped based on Modules
1.     GL              Accounting KFF       Used to Capture the COA
2.     AR              Territory KFF – Used to Capture the Sales Location
3.     Inventory –  Stock Locator – Used to Capture the Item Location
4.     FA –              Category KFF – Used to Group the Items
5.      HRMS –       Position KFF – Used to define the Position (Designation)

Steps to Configure Key Flexfields

1.     Plan the Usage of the Flexfields
2.     Define the Structure
3.     Plan and Configure the “n” of Segments
4.     Define Value Set
5.     Define Flexfields Qualifiers
6.     Define Values
7.     Implement Cross Validation Rule or security Rule for restrications
  
Descriptive Flexfields

Ø Used to Capture some Additional Information
Ø Definition – Expansion Space
Ø Supports In Forms and Tables
Ø The Predefined Table consist of Additional columns like Attribute1, Attribute2,….Attribute 15 to stores those additional information
Ø Easy to Configure, no programming knowledge required
 
Ø Optional and DFF is not Mandatory for the Application, it is used to capture some additional info based on the business needs for filtering or reporting purpose
Ø Ex., like Required to collect PAN Card Info while entering employees, required to collect supplier more information while entering Invoices.
Ø In Any form if there is [ ]  Square Bracket then those forms supports DFF. DFF Can be configure at Header level or Even for Each Lines

Ø DFF Types – Global Data Elements and Context Sensitive
Ø Global Data Elements – Common Data like PAN Card, Supplier Reference Number, Employee Passport Number
Ø Context Sensitive – Based on some content collect additional Info for Ex., If the Payment Method

Check – Check Number, Check Date and Bank Name
Credit Card – Card Number, Card Expiry Date, Card Holder Name

Ø Reference Fields – used to capture additional information based on the Predefined Elements in the Standard Forms

Descriptive Flexfields
      Associated with tables in a specific application
      Setup is optional
